This official UNFCCC side event, organised by the UNFCCC Secretariat, explores how transparency processes and scientific insights can better inform climate policy decisions and the implementation of the Paris Agreement. It highlights the role of the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) in translating country-reported data into actionable knowledge to support evidence-based policymaking, and brings together new research insights on nationally determined contributions (NDCs), technological progress, and pathways for the global energy transition in a changing geopolitical context.
The session brings together perspectives from the UNFCCC transparency process and the research community and is structured in two parts, followed by a joint Q&A at the end of the event.

Transparency, climate data and information
Time: 13:30-14:05 CEST
This segment will position the Enhanced Transparency Framework as a foundation for generating policy-relevant climate data and insights. Drawing on outputs from technical expert reviews, it will highlight how review-validated information can move beyond compliance to support evidence-based decision-making on NDC implementation and climate action. The discussion will focus on how transparency processes translate country-reported data into actionable knowledge, helping to identify implementation gaps, track progress, and inform mitigation pathways in line with scientific findings.

Are We on Track? NDCs, Technology, and the Energy Transition in a Changing World
Time: 14:05–14:35 CEST
This NEWPATHWAYS session will explore whether current climate policies and nationally determined contributions (NDCs) are sufficient to meet global climate goals, and what pathways can accelerate action. It focuses in particular on the energy transition in the context of evolving geopolitical dynamics and technological change.
The discussion will present new insights on:
- The implications of recent NDC submissions for global emissions trajectories
- Pathways for the energy transition in line with the Paris Agreement
- The role of technology and policy in accelerating mitigation efforts under current policy scenarios
