Global Stakeholder Workshop: Co-Shaping the Net-Zero Transition

Jun 19, 2025

Date and Time: Friday, 20th June 2025, 16:00-18:00 CEST (Registrations open from 15:30)

Organised and hosted by Climate Strategies with support from The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) as project coordinators, and other project partners.

The inaugural workshop of the NEWPATHWAYS project will bring together a selected group of stakeholders to explore how global climate transition pathways—grounded in robust modelling and scientific analysis— can more effectively support national and regional implementation.

NEWPATHWAYS is an ambitious Horizon Europe-funded research initiative aimed at accelerating and strengthening global climate action by breaking persistent deadlocks that hinder progress toward the Paris Agreement goals. Through collaboration with Integrated Assessment Modelling teams in 17 countries, the project is developing next-generation global and national low-emission transformation pathways. These are informed by cutting-edge social science, economic analysis, and policy insights, with a strong emphasis on equity, fairness, and the alignment of international financial flows with climate objectives.

This session will serve as an open, interactive forum to discuss critical questions including:

  • How can we ensure consistency between national climate strategies and global long-term goals?
  • How can we effectively include equity considerations in mitigation strategies to ensure that the transition does not exacerbate existing inequalities?
  • What types of scenarios would be most useful to inform the Global Stocktake in 2028?
  • What key challenges do countries face in translating global scenario insights into effective national policy frameworks?
  • How might rising geopolitical tensions affect the implementation of mitigation strategies?

This discussion will foster collaborative thinking and diverse perspectives to strengthen the science–policy interface for inclusive climate action.
